Everyone in the group experienced unexplainable things, which I'll summarize below. Unless you like black shirts.ĮXPERIENCE - This is our second "ghost tour" and I cannot say enough that this place is the real deal. Basically you can get a black shirt or a black shirt, or maybe a black shirt. There is also not a huge variety of items and this could be improved too. This should be open for the entire tour, and could easily be run by the team of 3 people who work overnight. That means you're losing time in your 6 hour tour. If you do it then, you have to walk to your car and take your stuff out there so you don't have to carry it around. There is a very small window of 30 minutes at the beginning to shop. I also understand they may not want to paint the floor numbers on the walls so they can maintain the original integrity, but it could be a safety concern as it stands. It is kind of tough to tell what floor you are on because some floors/stairwells aren't labeled. It would be nice to have at least one mirror as we got dirty/dusty and couldn't check ourselves out individually. The restrooms were recently renovated and were better than expected. I also thing a rotation would help with this.įACILITY - It is clearly old and has experienced some unfortunate vandalism, but all of that is to be expected. There were distractions and noise that would interfere with whatever you were doing because there were so many people. Perhaps a rotation of floors would be good. This meant that the people who left for their own locations were fully set up and stayed in certain spots the entire evening. Those who wanted to go on their own left, and only about 20 stayed back. They go through the rules at the beginning then let people decide if they want to explore on their own or go for a tour. When we got there they told us our group size was about 60 people which seemed like a ton. I would suggest updating their auto-generated email confirmation with the right address. The only reason we found the entrance was by going to the website where there was a banner rotating at the top telling you where to go. The confirmation email is thorough but absolutely wrong on where to go. Below is some detailed information about our experience.īOOKING - very simple, would rate it 4.5/5ĪRRIVAL - Needs improvement. Our family of 5 completed the 6 hour overnight tour on one of their 13+ nights. For all tour or overnight reservations or inquiries contact the office open daily 9am to 5pm Monday - Friday.

Waverly has earned her place as one of the most haunted places in the country and has been host to many films and TV shows. Ravaged by years of neglect, the present owners have breathed new life into the building by conducting tours though the facility in effort to restore it to a useful asset for the community once again. After closing in 1961, due to the introduction of life saving antibiotics, the hospital reopened in 1962 as "Woodhaven Geriatric Center" which operated the facility until 1982 when it was closed by the state. Waverly served the community through decades of the worse TB outbreak in the country. It housed 400 patients and was one of the largest facilities of its kind. The massive five story hospital was built in 1926 and sits atop Waverly Hill today. The Waverly Hills Sanatorium is on the U.S.
